1995 data, U.S. farmers applied one-third of a
pound of chemical fertilizers and pesticides for every pound of cotton
harvested. When all 19 cotton-growing states are tallied, the crop
accounts for 25% of all the pesticides used. Some of
these chemicals are among the most toxic classified by the EPA. And, cotton is often bleached white before it is dyed, and the carcinogen
dioxin is produced during the process. Chemical dyes frequently include toxic
heavy metals such as chrome, copper and zinc, and sometimes known or
suspected carcinogens. Even natural dyes, because of their poor colorfastness,
are often accompanied by heavy metals to fix the dyes.

toys. From it’s beginnings as a seed, the cotton used for the plush fabric and
stuffing is grown without pesticides or herbicides. Organically grown, the
fibers are unbleached, untreated, and unprocessed.
Because the toys are all
natural, toxicity and allergy levels are greatly reduced, lessening instances of
sickness or irritation. There’s no need to coat the fabric with chemicals to
make it softer; due to improved soil fertility and harvesting methods, the
fabric is naturally softer than regular cotton.
Where do Simply Fido colors come from?
The company uses their unique PureWaterWash™ process to achieve their charming colors.
Untreated cotton thread is woven into gently flowing fabric
and then brightened with Mother Nature's own plants and minerals.
Beige comes
from a Chestnut Bur, red from the Madder Root, yellow from a Gardenia Seed, and
grey from the mineral Charcoal The fabric is then
triple-washed in pure water to set the color. As a result, each toy has its own
unique appearance and color variance.
