I was at work the other day when my co-worker who had the day off called me and told me that she had found a stray boxer on the side of the road. She stated that she was very old with gray fur around her face and that she was starved you could see every bone in her body. She said she couldn’t keep her and I had thought that if we took her to the pound she would be put down due to her age. So I told her I would keep her.
When my co-worker brought her to me I instantly fell in love. You could see in her face that she was indeed very old and she had a hard life. She was just skin and bones. Although she was starving she was very patient when I fed her never nipping or growling at me. I could tell that at some time in her life she had a family because she knew the routine of a house. She knew to nudge me when she needing to go outside. I had left to go pick up my children from school and when I got home Abbey greeted me at the door wiggling her whole body like boxers do, she was too weak to jump up on me so she licked my hand. When I sat down to watch T.V Abbey climbed in my lap and watched T.V too. It was like she had been here all along.
I think my Sweet Abbey should win this contest because even though her previous owners had left her alone to fend for herself, she still has it in her to love and trust people again. It breaks my heart to think of what she has been through but it makes me happy to know that she now has all the things every dog deserves a fresh bowl of food and water, a house with a soft bed to sleep in, people to greet at the door and a gentle hand petting them down there back with a soft voice telling them they are loved.
